Choose RemNote if you want a released workspace that combines linked notes, source annotation, flashcards, collaboration, and offline apps. Consider Repeto if you want a narrower flashcard-first workflow with FSRS and Anki portability and are willing to evaluate a pre-release product rather than depend on it today.

RemNote covers substantially more of the study process today. Repeto’s proposed value is focus and a more opinionated review-and-portability model, not a claim that it already replaces RemNote’s released, broader workspace.
Where RemNote is better than Repeto
RemNote is a complete notes-and-study environment
In RemNote, a bullet can become a flashcard without leaving the document. Notes can link to other notes, embed media, use tables and templates, and sit beside an annotated PDF. That is useful for a medical student who wants lecture notes, source pins, flashcards, and review in the same knowledge base.
Repeto is intentionally narrower. Its current codebase centers on decks, cards, imports, generation, review, and sharing. If connected notes, daily documents, backlinks, PDF annotation, and long-form writing are central to your workflow, RemNote is the better fit.
RemNote documents broad source-reading and lecture workflows
RemNote’s Guided Learn mode accepts PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint files, YouTube videos, web pages, audio recordings, and existing notes. It can create section summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and a study plan. The lecture recorder links transcript text to timestamps, and generated PDF cards can carry source pins back to the document.
Repeto’s pre-release plan includes broad ingestion, but a plan is not equivalent to a shipped reader. Repeto still needs versioned tests for each live source/provider path and does not offer RemNote’s documented reader and annotation workflow.
RemNote supports offline work and several collaboration models
RemNote’s desktop and mobile apps can edit notes and review flashcards offline after an initial download and login, then sync edits and review progress after reconnection. The desktop app stores a complete local copy of images and PDFs; mobile does not store the full media collection and caches only some recently used images.
RemNote also offers public Community courses, groups, link sharing, and collaborative knowledge bases. Repeto’s shared-deck market exists in the current codebase but has no demonstrated public inventory, moderation record, or network effect.
RemNote offers more customization
RemNote supports custom schedulers, plugins, themes, custom CSS, tables, multiple flashcard forms, and a linked-note model. That flexibility is valuable for a user willing to configure a long-lived system. It also creates more concepts to learn, which is why another user may prefer Repeto’s narrower scope.
Where Repeto’s pre-release direction may be better
These are codebase or product-direction differences, not claims of public availability.
FSRS is the default review model in Repeto
RemNote currently uses its Anki SM-2-derived scheduler by default. FSRS v6 is available, but RemNote labels it beta, requires manual activation, and cautions against using it for critical cards until it has been verified further.
Repeto’s current codebase is built around FSRS rather than offering it as an optional beta. It uses four recall ratings and repository scheduling fixtures. That gives Repeto a more focused scheduler story, but it still needs public longitudinal evidence and does not prove better learning outcomes by itself.
Repeto keeps the main workflow deck-first
RemNote’s core unit is a networked bullet or document; flashcards emerge from that structure. Repeto’s core unit is the deck/card/review loop. Someone who already writes notes elsewhere may prefer a tool that does not ask them to adopt another knowledge-management system.
This is a workflow preference, not an objective advantage. Test whether RemNote’s extra context saves time or makes simple card maintenance feel heavier.
Repeto is building a free shared-deck market with .apkg downloads
Repeto’s current codebase includes a free shared-deck market with browse, publish, install, download, and moderation routes. RemNote already offers a public Community with a broader purpose: courses, shared notes, AI-generated learning materials, and shared documents.
Repeto’s narrower market could be useful to learners who want editable deck copies and an Anki bridge. It remains unproven until public availability, inventory quality, and moderation can be measured.
Where Repeto is worse or less proven
- RemNote is released; Repeto is not generally released under its own product identity.
- RemNote covers web, three desktop operating systems, iOS, and Android. Repeto has no released Android app and no native desktop app.
- RemNote currently offers a public Community, a maintained help center, plugins and themes, groups, and collaborative knowledge bases.
- RemNote’s offline behavior is documented in detail. Repeto must not promise full offline creation, import, generation, or sync yet.
- RemNote’s reader and lecture tools are deeper than Repeto’s current public evidence.

.apkgsupport has not yet published a broad compatibility corpus. “Import succeeded” is not proof that every custom template, media file, and schedule survived.
For a student with an exam next month, maturity and recovery behavior matter more than architectural neatness. A pre-release product should not become the only copy of important study material.
Card creation: notes-first versus deck-first
RemNote supports manual cards directly in notes: basic, reverse, bidirectional, concept, descriptor, cloze, multiple choice, multiline, table-generated, and image occlusion. Direct AI generation works from selected pasted text; RemNote notes that this particular flow cannot read images. Guided Learn and the Reader handle broader source types and can generate cards from them.
Repeto’s current pre-release codebase supports manual deck/card management and editable AI generation inside a deck. Its intended source flow sends material to a draft-review step before cards enter the collection. That is attractive if you want a simple approve/edit/discard queue, but source-specific live behavior must be tested rather than inferred from the repository.
Ask which authoring context you want to maintain for years. If the original note and the card should remain one object, RemNote is stronger. If the deck is the durable object and the source is only an input, Repeto’s model may feel cleaner.
Reviewing: default scheduler choice matters
RemNote lets users stay on its default SM-2-derived scheduler or opt into FSRS v6 beta. It supports custom scheduler assignment and can optimize FSRS parameters from review history after enough reviews.
Repeto’s current codebase standardizes on FSRS with four ratings. During a comparison, do not stop at the scheduler name. Check interval previews, learning steps, target-retention controls, undo, due-queue behavior, and what happens after a late review or offline session.
RemNote’s optimizer and custom-scheduler controls may be better for an expert. Repeto’s uniform defaults may be better for a user who does not want to configure the system.
Anki import and export: neither claim should go untested
RemNote can import .apkg flashcards and their review history; its official instructions tell users to include scheduling information, deck presets, and media in the Anki package. RemNote exports flashcards only—not all RemNote notes—as .apkg. Documented import limitations include omitted Anki CSS, unsupported JavaScript templates, some on-the-fly TTS, and image-occlusion note types or fields that were renamed; the importer also shows at most 2,000 tags for selection.
Repeto imports supported .apkg packages and exports decks as .apkg in the current codebase. It should not claim universal losslessness until a current test corpus has been published.
For either tool, keep the original Anki package and test a representative deck containing cloze cards, media, non-Latin text, custom templates, suspended cards, and review history.
Offline and price
RemNote’s Free plan includes unlimited notes and flashcards and unlimited synced devices. Its current limits include three documents in the “Annotated PDFs, Files, & Websites” category, image occlusion on five images, and 100 AI credits per month. RemNote’s USD pricing page shows Pro at $8 per month ($96 billed yearly) and Pro with AI at $18 per month ($216 billed yearly); monthly and regional checkout prices should be checked separately.
Offline access is one of RemNote’s clearest advantages. Native desktop and mobile apps can edit notes and review cards offline. Most AI features are unavailable offline; images or PDFs not stored locally may be inaccessible, and the web app cannot be reopened from scratch while disconnected.
Repeto does not yet have a comparable released pricing/offline proposition. Recheck those facts at launch instead of comparing a planned tier with a product someone can buy today.
Run the same 45-minute trial
Run the Repeto side only if you have legitimate access to a pre-release build.
- Use the same five-page lecture PDF in both products.
- Create ten cards manually: basic, reverse, cloze, image-based, and one card with extra explanation.
- Generate 20 cards from the PDF and count unsupported answers, duplicates, overloaded prompts, and cleanup minutes.
- Try to return from a generated card to its exact source passage.
- Complete the same four-rating answer pattern on ten new cards and record the offered intervals.
- Import one representative
.apkg, then inspect media, templates, tags, card count, and review state. - Export the imported deck and open it in a fresh Anki profile.
- Go offline on mobile, complete ten reviews, edit one card if supported, reconnect, and verify the result elsewhere.
The outcome should reflect your actual bottleneck. Source traceability may matter more than card count; writing speed may matter more than AI; reliable offline review may matter more than both.
Which should you choose?
Choose RemNote if you want one released system for notes, annotations, linked knowledge, lectures, flashcards, offline study, and collaboration. It is also the safer choice when you need currently available web, desktop, and mobile apps.
Consider Repeto if you want a narrower deck-first workflow, prefer FSRS as the standard scheduler, and value its target combination of editable drafts, Anki portability, and a free shared-deck market. Treat it as a pre-release evaluation until public release and verification are recorded.
If you already use RemNote successfully, Repeto’s current status is not a reason to migrate. If RemNote’s knowledge-base model is more system than you want, Repeto may become worth a controlled one-deck test after launch.
